LEARNING DISABILITY ASSESSMENT AND REMEDIATION


Ms. Larsen provides learning disability assessment for older adolescents and adults.  Because many adults have had no previous learning disability testing and educational/career futures are of primary importance, the typical evaluation is quite comprehensive.  The goal is that the client have a clear understanding not only of academic problems, but what underlying cognitive mechanisms are the cause and what can be done to remediate and compensate effectively for them.


Because reading difficulties can be caused by functional vision problems, a screening for visual tracking and coordination is included and clients are referred to the U.C. School of Optometry if results are questionable.


A full report is written, with the intent that it be understandable years in the future, when details of the testing itself are lost to memory.  Recommendations are made and accommodations are listed that both schools and places of employment are legally required to provide to allow the learning disabled person to function as effectively as possible.


All clients have found the learning disability evaluation beneficial and many have been able to make major changes in their academic performance.


Remediation of learning disabilities for adults and children is done in conjunction with neurotherapy.
